Water nourishes, cleanses, and satisfies thirst.  Without water, we would perish.  It is a precious resource that we often take for granted.  Our own Portland Water Bureau boasts the delivery of the best drinking water in the world and they may be correct.  The Bull Run Watershed, which provides most of Portland’s water is the most protected in the country and, as such, does not have to be filtered.  That said, Federal Regulations do require chloramination, ammonia, and sodium hydroxide (Portland Water Bureau 2007).
